A small vintage brass turtle with a hinged shell, cast with a domed, segmented back, ridged legs and a quietly characterful face. Lift the shell and you'll find a shallow two-wick candle tucked inside, with the hammered underside of the lid standing up behind it. The brass has softened to a muted, olive-gold patina, a little brighter where it has been handled over the years.
Hand-poured in South London using our soy, coconut and rapeseed wax blend, it's scented with Vintage Bookshop: soft citrus and ginger over cedarwood, leather and sandalwood, settling into amber, patchouli and musk. A thoughtful gift for a reader, or anyone with a soft spot for curious little objects. Every scent we pour is described in our fragrance guide.

Please burn with the shell fully open and leave it open until the wax has cooled. Brass warms quickly, so allow the turtle to cool before touching or closing it.
This is a short-burning candle, holding just enough wax for one or two evenings. The turtle itself is the part to keep. There is only one, and it can't be restocked. Once the candle is finished, wash it out with warm soapy water and use it for rings, paperclips or other small treasures.
